Here is the electronic version of the scholarly book "Railways and the Formation of the Italian State in the Nineteenth Century" I published in 1997 with Cambridge University Press.

It is based on my PhD thesis which I defended at the European University Institute on 24 November 1994. My supervisor was Prof. Albert Carreras (now Universidad Pompeu Fabru), Prof. Peter Hertner, Prof. Richard T. Griffiths (now University of Leyden), Prof. Jeffrey Williamson (Harvard University), Vera Zamagni (now University of Bologna).
